About Hazel Smyth

Hazel Smyth, founded by Elizabeth Herff, specializes in semi-fine jewelry that blends high-quality materials like 14 karat gold heavy vermeil level plating and semiprecious stones into unique, handcrafted designs inspired by global travels, art and design museums, and natural beauty. Herff's jewelry, found in select stores across the country, exemplifies her belief that jewelry should not only add a touch of glamour but also enhance and reflect the wearer's inherent beauty.

How We Got Started

Elizabeth founded Hazel Smyth jewelry with a singular vision: to create jewelry with the look of artisan crafted fine jewelry, but not the price. She sought real stones over glass, fine metals in place of base alloys, and a blend of classic high-end jewelry elements with modern design details. Elizabeth honed her craft through metal jewelry-making courses, developed her signature aesthetic, and taught herself the intricate art of jewelry design. Collaborating with master artisans across the United States, she transformed her inspirations, sketches, and hand-selected stones into a distinctive semi-fine jewelry line that embodies refinement and modernity.

What Inspires Us

Elizabeth draws inspiration from exceptional design across various mediums, including architecture, fine art, home decor, and high jewelry. She immerses herself in these artistic fields, exploring interesting textures and shapes, unique color combinations, and a blend of timeless and contemporary fashion design. Her goal is for her jewelry to feel both fresh and innovative while remaining deeply rooted in historical design traditions.

“Good jewelry is intended to help the wearer complete her look: each handmade piece should be considered the final, precise brush stroke in a woman's artistic presentation of herself to her environment.”

Our Process

Elizabeth Herff sources semiprecious stones globally to ensure each Hazel Smyth piece begins with the finest and most interesting materials. Her designs, intricately hand shaped with wax or clay and combined with 3D printing, are then sent to New Mexico for casting. Upon return to the Hazel Smyth studio, each piece is meticulously assembled, hammered as needed, and perfected, ensuring that no two designs are ever the same, creating truly unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry.

Made in the South
